Simply thinking about what I’m going to write for this weekend’s submission makes me feel so inferior to my advanced creative writing classmates. Some of the things I’ve read from some of them have just been so utterly beautiful, and I feel like I’ll never be able to create anything as beautiful as that. And then I wonder if it’s even worth trying. I know I’m a pretty good writer, especially compared to the general population, but in that class I’m mediocre at best. Nothing special. It’s not that I’m bad by any means, it’s that everyone else (with a few exceptions who are just awful) is so fucking good. And again, I feel like I’ll never be able to compete with that. Some of the things those kids wrote were just so amazing, some of the most amazing things I’ve ever read, and I wonder how they got those ideas, why I don’t have a mind like theirs.
